14 mile bike: 55:18
2 mile trail run: 21:04
I would love to put a “recap after the break” here, but I cannot get it to work.  Suggestions welcome and apologies for the lengthy post.
It was around 38 degrees, rainy and windy.  I couldn’t find anything in the registration info about headphones and I didn’t see anyone using any, so I did this one with no iPod.  I really didn’t miss it at all.  I even had a few conversations/comments with other racers.  (Anyone who knows me would find this extremely unusual for me, I’m not exactly what you would describe as socially outgoing.)
This was my first time running on trails and I really liked it.  There was more to concentrate on and think about to occupy the mind.  Will make an effort to incorporate some trail runs in my routines this summer for sure.  The first run I felt great and when I saw sub 20 minutes going into T1, I was more than a little happy.
My transitions were terrible, between 2 and 3 minutes each.  If it hadn’t been rainy and windy I think I would have been faster.  I had my shoes, shorts and helmet in a plastic grocery sack and the wind just would not cooperate with taking stuff in and out of the bag.  Lessons learned: pick a rack closer to the exit to cut down on distance running with bike shoes, get some tri shorts to eliminate step of putting on/taking off bike shorts, saw a guy with a clear plastic tote with his gear in that maybe looked a little dorky - but for the conditions looked genius.
The bike was my strong suit and this was no surprise to me.  I was only passed by the disk wheel, tear drop helmet guys who were lapping me.  It was pretty hilly and I knew it would be so I wasn’t shocked like I think some people were.  I do not know the technical terms, but I could not shift to my smallest gears.  I could use only the middle and largest rings.  This freaked me out a little on the first hill, but I quickly decided there was nothing I could do about it and pushed on.  I had a few minutes of “how the hell am I ever going to finish this, let alone run 2 more miles”.  I had a gu gel about halfway through the bike and I could definitely feel it.  Drank a little water but probably not enough.  It’s hard for me to drink when it’s cold, I was just not thirsty and only drank what I did because I knew I should.  The scariest part of the bike was coming into T2.  I probably should have practiced getting out of my clips and off the bike without coming to a complete stop.  It all worked out, but I did have a minor panic attack.
The last run was a little rough, as I’m sure it is for everyone.  I walked some on the uphill sections.  I probably didn’t have to, that was a mind battle that I will work through next time.  Even with the walking this loop was not unreasonably longer than the first 2 miles, so I was pleased.  After the lady took my ankle strap off, I felt like I was stepping off a boat.  I’m sure I looked drunk.  I meant to walk straight ahead but it was more like the kids who spin with their heads on a bat and try to walk.  It was very weird, funny and a tad embarrassing but it subsided pretty quick.  All in all, I am definitely hooked on the multi-sport races!

“What is this salty discharge?”  No matter how many times I see it, even though I knew it was coming, watching Pat step aside gets me every time.  Damn you, SportsCenter!  Tearing up on the treadmill does not make for easy running, for shiz.  Regardless, I got my 53 minutes done for a total of 5.13 miles.  For some reason I had pain in my stomach almost the entire time, not cool insides.  Not cool at all.  Oh well, I ran through it and I’ll take that as a major win.  Happy Friday, everyone!

amiegoesactive asked: Do that damn 10 things thing I sent you. I mean please, who doesn't want 10 random facts about tammidoeslife?

My current employer is the only* company I have worked for since I started working full time.  In July that will be 20 years.

My biggest soft spot is for animals and senior citizens.  Sarah McLachlan, forget about it!  Kill hundreds of people in a movie?  That’s fine, just don’t hit a dog.  Same goes for the elderly.  Someone with blue hair driving 15 mph?  Not irritating at all, I just want to follow them home and see if they’d like me to drive them next time, or mow their yard, or do their shopping…

I cannot stand to have anything kiddy-corner or caddy-corner or, in my opinion, crooked.  Right angles are called right for a reason.

When I was little I wanted desperately to go to military school.  The movie Taps may have reinforced this desire.  My parents did not share in my dreams and I was a “good girl”, so public school it was - le sigh.

For some reason people call me by both my first and last name, Tammivail - all one word.  I am not introduced to people this way, it just starts happening.  It doesn’t bother me so I don’t ever mention it, it’s just weird.

I can tell when things have been moved, even if it is by the teeniest amount.  This tends to drive people I live with crazy.  Me -“What did you have to fix?” Them - “What do you mean?” Me - “Oh, the glue is not where it used to be in the drawer.” Them - “Grrrrrr”.  The WORST prank that could be played on my would be for someone to rearrange my office while I was gone.  I would definitely not be able to do anything at all until I had everything back in its’ place.

I tend to be a person who knows a little bit about a lot of things.  This is great for trivia games or for being handy, but sometimes I wish I knew a lot about one or two specific things.

Every night I lay out my clothes for the next day in the order that I will put them on.  Sweatshirt on the bottom, pants next, tshirt, socks, bra, undies.  I also do the same with my gym bag and when I empty that into my locker, same again.  Did I mention that the undies need to match the shirt?  You never know…

One of my biggest pet peeves is the use/misuse of: to, too, two & there, their, they’re.  I also refuse to use texting slang like ur or gr8, I’m sure this is a sign of me being old but I’m good with it.

I was a weather observer (yes, that’s a real job) in the *Air Force.  (Yes, that’s a real job.)  I spent about a month in Egypt in support of Operation Restore Hope and was active duty for a little over a year.  Why such a short amount of time?  Don’t Ask, I won’t Tell. ;

Week 4 Olympic Tri Training Done

Today’s schedule said to run 48 minutes, so I did and it was 4.65 miles.  Stopping to get stamps on my way to work today to mail in 3 race registrations.  (For being in IT and loving all things electronics, I still like to go through the whole postal mail process sometimes.  Weird, I know.)  I am just missing something for August, otherwise I think I am all set for this summer.

Catch up post

Today is my scheduled rest day, but I’m behind in my posts so here it goes.  Yesterday WIW was 153.  This is -2 from two weeks ago.  It’s pretty unexpected that I got a loss given all of the eating out and beer drinking I did while I was away from home.  I don’t think it’s necessary to share all the time, but the gain I had seen earlier maybe had something to do with water retention.  No matter, I’ll take it.  Looking back I think this may be my all time adult low weight by a pound and 3 pounds away from my original goal of 150.  At this point the scale is really just a tool to keep me accountable.  I’m not really looking at a specific number I want.  I’m comfortable with the way I look and feel right now, so while I’m not actively trying to lose weight I definitely am trying to increase my fitness.  Faster and Farther - swimming, biking and running.

Yesterday I swam for 30 minutes, I’m sure I PR’d for laps but for some reason I can’t seem to be able to count laps with any kind of reliability.  Any tips???  After the pool I did 30 minutes on the bike for 7.5 miles.

Tuesday was 38 minutes of running, got 3.77 miles in.

Monday was swim for 48 minutes, got .75 mile in.  (Was able to count these laps by using a kick board to mark off floor tiles)

Sunday I rode my bike outside for about 25 miles.  I kept stopping the Garmin and forgetting to turn it back on.  Sooo mad about that.  I went out around 6:30 and it was cold!  My clothes selection was good, but I forgot gloves.  Ridiculous!  I actually found one children’s glove on the ground along the path.  You bet your ass I stopped my bike (and my Garmin, grrrr) to pick it up.  I thought for about 5 seconds what kind of horrible things could happen by wearing a piece of “garbage”, then I put that bitch on and couldn’t have been happier with it.  There were no used needles or spiders to be found just sweet sweet one handed warmth!

Here are the results from my 5k today.  Felt pretty good, also feels pretty good to be getting back on track since my little “vacation”.  Unofficially I think I’ve put on 5 pounds with my shenanigans.  This is life, just need to get back at it.

15 miles today, didn’t do it yesterday but got some in today.  Leave to go home tomorrow.  This bike path is pretty sweet.  It’s  waaaaaayyyyyy more hilly than my midwestern ass is accustomed to, but the scenery makes up for it.  I think if I would have kept going after this for any stretch of time that I would end up in downtown Nashville.  I started feeling guilty for doing stuff on my own when I really should be here visiting my mother, so I turned around after this bridge/7.5(ish) miles.  Having said all of that…….
I am Fucking (yes, I said the word that loses people followers) done.  I have eaten in restaurants for 90% of my meals.  I have had at least 4 beers per day, every day. That is it.  I am going home tomorrow.  I always drink some beers each week, but everyday  is ridiculous.  The food - off the mf chain, yo!

I’m still here. This was Saturday and I was on my way to visit my mom in Nashville. Still there, these are tough trips for me. Mentally and physically. She should not be living alone this far away. My visits only remind me of this, and each time it is only more obvious - to me.
The only thing we really do is go out to restaurants, so eating is ridiculous. Btw, went to the famous Pancake Pantry yesterday - delicious! Exercise is ok, so far I’ve ridden my bike 17 miles and ran 3 miles. Today I plan on another bike ride.
Back home Thursday, I miss the normal things about home but the weird thing is I miss the Y.
I have another post about my absence, but that will be a little later. Thank you, nowforthefunpart for thinking of me :)

Week 3 Olympic Tri Training Done

Today was 48 minutes of running, 4.5 miles.  It was all pretty good today.  I really like having my “long” runs on Friday, such a great way to start the last day of the work week.  Have a great Friday everyone!
